A hysteroscopy is a procedure whereby a hysteroscope (like a narrow telescope) is inserted through the opening of the cervix into the uterine cavity. It may be used for treatment of diagnosis.
A diagnostic hysteroscopy can often take only a few minutes and be performed with a local anaesthetic whilst awake.
It can be used to investigate infertility, recurrent miscarriage and heavy or irregular periods.
It can also be used to remove fibroids/polyps.
