Amongst the modern scourges of society, i.e., the problems that no matter what you do to eliminate them keep returning stronger and more virulent, are: the cane toad, bikini line hair and endometriosis.

Pregnancy success stories frequently describe how the removal of their endometriosis via a laparoscopy procedure led rapidly to becoming pregnant.

Endometriosis is essentially a condition where endometrial tissue, which is usually shed each month during menstruation and not normally of a nomadic nature, goes for the pelvic equivalent of an overseas trip and doesn't come back. Meantime it takes up residence in various destinations outside the uterus - the ovaries being a popular choice - and cannot, no matter what incentives are offered, be coaxed back to where it belongs.

You can undergo a laparoscopy for endometriosis, which will remove what's there, thereby improving your chances of conception, but you have to get on top of your partner quickly because, like pubic hair regrowth, endometriosis recurrence can happen without warning.

Combined with a pill called Chlomid, the laparoscopy was successful in helping me achieve my second pregnancy straight away but unfortunately was of no use in helping maintain it. Chlomid acts to increase the chance of pregnancy by boosting the number of eggs produced in any given ovulation. In essence it is like being a battery hen (popping out the eggs efficiently with) as opposed to free range (where an egg just plops out randomly of its own accord). I can safely say that a career as either type of hen does not beckon as my eggs wouldn't make it into the carton, let alone the breakfast table…
